The construction of the palace, as we know it, began in 1664, and it was the official residence of the kings of France from 1682 until the French Revolution in 1789. Many architects and landscapes designer succeeded each other to build this masterpiece. The most famous of them are Louis le Vau, Jules Hardoin-Mansart, Jacques Gabriel, and André Le Nôtre. They also designed the city to highlight the castle with the trident shape of the streets that are converging to the royal courtyard and the golden gates.
