Is hypervigilance caused by narcissistic or abusive relationships? Bc this is me now after leaving a narcissistic marriage. I’m constantly over explaining & checking if people are “okay” or mad at me.

I want to be there for this person, but navigating what they read into situations is really exhausting. It makes me feel like everything I say is heavy.

This is my biggest trauma reaction. If I feel even remotely unsafe, my hypervigilance is almost an out of body experience.

As someone that struggles with this, for me the biggest help is the way my partner words stuff. "Hey baby let's try to get in the habit of locking the doors at night please" Is a lot better for me

This kind of defensiveness and centering of insecurities can be exhausting to live with. I’ve found myself tiptoeing around it in the past.
