As an agent, I still suggest the rental car insurance cause if you use yours, it's on your policy when there's a loss.

I have been with my insurance company for a very, very long time & they did not cover me when I rented a car for the first time in forever. Should I change insurance companies? Would that be smart?

You pay your deductible and have a claim on your record. Rental car insurance- no record of claim

my Discover card also includes rental car insurance. I found out by reading fine print once, out of boredom 😁

But your own personal insurence will not cover the loss of income to the rental company on that vehicle while getting repaired. Happen to me once and The rental company charged me the cost

I worked for Budgrt fur years. Secondary coverage does not kick in right away and it then goes against you. The lDW with a car rental stays off your insurance in case of an accident.

The premium coverage on my Amex card is $30 for up to 30 days. It covers the vehicle and loss of use.

And prior to loading vehicle do a walk around video. Then still shots of any scratch, ding etc. Repeat on interior. Now you have proof of prior damage.

$40/day is ten times what I pay for my auto insurance with two cars. It’s ridiculous what they charge.

Learned this when I worked at an auto body shop 🤣 Rental companies are never excited I decline all 3 times. (they have to ask 3 times here)

Always take at least the damage waiver for like $14/day. Even a scratch will put a whole claim on your policy for a car that’s not even yours.

I swear rental cars are tracked and when you don’t get insurance they purposely send someone to damage it when you aren’t present

but if a car is rented and down due to an accident, you may be responsible for all the days down. so read the fine print.

What you don’t say is if there’s an at fault accident, your insurance goes up, plus paying for loss of use.

if you don't have collision. i wonder if it would be easier to purchase from your insurance then cancel when you return the rental

Buy the loss damage waiver though! A motorcycle totaled our rental jeep for 50k damage and we didn’t have to do or pay anything. Best $130 bucks ever spent
