I just to recharge then I guess I messed the lil port up in the low pressure part because it start coming out green smh plus I didn’t need the freon because the gauge was in yellow

I can't find a Ac leaks??
Here’s why hydrogen / nitrogen “forming gas” leak testing is much more sensitive than using only nitrogen when testing refrigeration or AC systems. 🔧❄️1️⃣ Molecular size difference
As mentioned earlier:
Hydrogen < Nitrogen < R-134a < R-1234yf
Because hydrogen molecules are extremely small, they can pass through microscopic leaks that larger molecules cannot.
Typical kinetic diameters:
Gas Diameter
Hydrogen (H₂) ~2.9 Å
Nitrogen (N₂) ~3.6 Å
R-134a ~4.4 Å
R-1234yf ~4.6 Å
➡️This means hydrogen escapes through leaks that nitrogen may not detect.
2️⃣ Electronic hydrogen detectors are very sensitive
Hydrogen leak detectors can detect extremely tiny concentrations.
Typical sensitivity:
Hydrogen detector: ~1–5 ppm
Electronic refrigerant detector: ~5–10 g/year leak
Soap bubble test: only detects relatively larger leaks
So a forming gas detector can find leaks 10–100× smaller than many refrigerant detectors.
3️⃣ Forming gas is safe
Pure hydrogen would be dangerous, but the mixture used is:
95% Nitrogen
5% Hydrogen
This is called forming gas.
At 5% hydrogen, the mixture is non-flammable, so it is safe for system testing.
4️⃣ It leaves the system easily
Hydrogen:
very light
diffuses quickly
doesn’t contaminate refrigerant oil
So after testing, it can be evacuated quickly with a vacuum pump.
5️⃣ Why nitrogen pressure tests sometimes miss leaks
Nitrogen testing relies on:
pressure drop
soap bubbles
Problems:
very small leaks may take hours or days to show pressure drop
bubbles need direct access to the leak
buried evaporator leaks are hard to find
Hydrogen detectors can sniff leaks through insulation, dashboards, or panels.
6️⃣ Why many automotive manufacturers use it
Hydrogen/nitrogen leak testing is commonly used for systems with:
R-1234yf
EV heat pump systems
complex HVAC assemblies
It helps find leaks in:
evaporators
microchannel condensers
aluminium joints
O-ring seals
