@antalyalocalguide: Turkey or Turkiye? Let’s start with facts: 1️⃣ The modern spelling "Turkey" dates back to at least 1719. (Oxford English dictionary) 2️⃣ The country called itself Türkiye in 1923 after its declaration of independence. 3️⃣ June 1st, 2021 following an official letter submitted to the United Nations by the Republic of Türkiye, the country's name has been officially changed to Türkiye at the UN. 4️⃣ On December 4th, 2021 it has been requested by the president to use “Türkiye” instead of “Turkey” for all official documents and affairs including that “Made in Türkiye” be used instead of “Made in Turkey” on exported products. 5️⃣ Türkiye Cumhuriyeti, known in English as the Republic of Turkey or more commonly known as Turkey. 6️⃣ “Türkiye” is the official spelling and pronunciation in Turkish language. ❗️NOW THE BEST PART. 7️⃣ At a press briefing on 5 January 2023, a US State Department spokesman announced that: the Board on Geographic Names retained both "Turkey" and "Republic of Turkey", the previous spelling, as conventional names, as these are more widely understood by the American public. The department will use the spelling that you saw today [#Türkiye] in most of our formal diplomatic and bilateral contexts, including in public communications, but the conventional name can also be used if it is in furtherance of broader public understanding”. ‼️ So all foreigns CAN USE ALL VERSIONS the conventional names "Turkey" and "Republic of Turkey" or “Turkiye”. What about other English speakers: 8️⃣ Not one foreigner in the video knew about the name change, I personally spoke to all of them for about 5 min after. Most were shocked by the news yet still said they will continue to say “Turkey”. 9️⃣ Most English speaking countries still use “Turkey” for news announcements and written articles. I personally checked BBC, CNN, etc, you can check too. 🔟 Look how Instagram translates turkish comments to English when the name “Türkiye” is mentioned. Literally, at the bottom hit the “translate” button and you will see that this word will be translated to “Turkey”. 🤔 My opinion: Out of respect I try to say/write #Turkiye when i speak to turkish people in English but i am a human being, not a robot, I can forget. In my daily life, I speak mostly to English speakers and between ourselves we call this country the old way, so when i make videos I chose to say Turkey because A: my page is in English and B: i speak to English speakers. So if ANYONE will write me anything about this topic ever again, i will simply send them this video ##antalyalocalguide_turkeyvsturkiyeand if they proceed insisting on me saying Turkiye we will part ways. I’m very kind and understanding but i have my limits too. TOPIC CLOSED! ##turkiye #türkiye🇹🇷 #türkiye #türkü #turkiye🇹🇷

🦃 or 🇹🇷: If you look up Webster's Dictionary, you'll see a derogatory meaning for "Turk" 🤬. All of these are terms of 🇬🇧 bigotry dating back more than a century. Respect!!!
