@outsidemagazine: Do you have a favorite tree? 🌳 If not, go ahead, pick one: to check in on, root for, and admire. Here's Outside writer and illustrator, Brendan Leonard’s, favorite tree and a little bit about it! #semirad #arborday #favoritetree #getoutside
The oak in my moms backyard. Hes huge and towers over our house. I’ve played in his shadow my entire life and buried my childhood pets under him.

My favorite is a mimosa tree that I grew from a seed as a child :) she’s still going strong, although we don’t own the house she lives at anymore. I still visit!

The sugar maples, it’s our state tree but they’re genuinely the most beautiful trees in the fall

There’s a redbud in a yard I pass from time to time. I wait anxiously every spring to see it bloom. Once I start seeing the flowers I detour past it repeatedly for the few weeks it’s a solid purple.

Had to explain why I was crying so much about a tree being cut down. Was shocked to hear myself say "it was my absolute favorite". I've never had a favorite anything🥲

I do this! I acknowledge the perfection of things in nature that others might not have noticed! Little perfect ant - I see you! I know you exist! Perfect flower in the woods? You are awesome. 😊

I have had favorite trees in the past but don’t have one now. Some of the trees are my enemies.

When I bought my house, one of the first things I did was walk around the yard to introduce myself to the trees.

My yard had a weeping cherry; its blooming always signified the beginning of spring. I lost it last year to fireblight and I miss it so much.

My favorite tree was an Eastern Hemlock that grew next to my childhood home. The tree fell in a storm 6 years ago it was 76 years old according to the growth rings. I grew up in that tree.

I had a tree outside my childhood bedroom window that I would climb and read in and my parents cut it down because it was dying and a part of me did too
