no joke but the black liner actually looks good so I would say some kind of black mulch or Black Rock personally I would do black mulch

Do mulch or wood chips of some kind. Rock will always find their way outside of the pavers and cause the lawn mower to suck them up. Last thing you want is the shatter a window or injure someone else
