@usahistory125: My son, Jesse, and I saw this violin at the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge, TN back in 2016. This violin belonged to the bandleader on the Titanic - Wallace Hartley. Before the ship sank, he wrapped his violin in clothes and then put it in this leather case. He then strapped the case to his body. He died in the sinking, but he was wearing a life vest, and his body was recovered several days later with this case and violin still attached to him. It was an engagement gift to him from his fiance, Maria - as the engraved plate shows. In 2013, it was sold at auction for $1.7 million. This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime event for Jesse and me to see this. This was the only item in the museum that we were allowed to photograph.
