Being a smaller muscle, it has a higher ratio of slow twitch muscles than the biceps. Some studies have even found it to be slow twitch dominant, though that can vary from person to person. Taking the above into account, when working my brachialis I now ensure I use a higher rep range suitable for slightly slow twitch dominant muscles (>10). I perform the eccentric/negative motion more slowly, which enhances brachialis activity while reducing biceps brachii activity according to some research.
