Let’s talk about milestones. I am not here to fear monger, I don’t think milestones need to be a source of stress for parents. I’m a parent myself, I have 3 kids, one of who wasn’t meeting milestones! Someone recently commented on a post of mine saying “milestones are insignificant” and “Children are random at best”, which is incorrect. I know this parent means well, but I want to clear the air about milestones because I think they are misunderstood. Children are not random, if they were, we wouldn’t have milestones to begin with. Milestones are behaviors or skills that we see achieved at certain ages by the vast majority of children. Milestones are reported in a range to account for the variability in child development, no one expects all children to do things at exactly the same time. If milestones don’t seem to serve you because your child doesn’t struggle, that’s fine. They aren’t really there for those kids. Just remember that milestones are a guideline and are there to raise our awareness of a potential issue—it doesn’t mean there is an issue—and we always need to consider the child as a whole and not look at an isolated skill. #toddlertok #toddlermom #whattoexpect #toddlerdevelopment #babymilestones
