@jakemtnoljc: How cute are these little guys! 😍 The Epaulette shark, also referred to as the “walking shark” due to their unique ability to walk on their fins is a super rare ability in the shark world. These sharks use this special ability to hunt for their food in the very shallow waters of warm waters. The reason for the Epaulette sharks name is the little spots on their shoulders that look like epaulettes. 😄 They are also quite small, usually reaching about 1 metre in length. Epaulette sharks are also nocturnal, which means they’re most active at night. It’s fascinating how they can survive in shallow waters by using their pectoral fins to “walk” and find food. Isn’t nature amazing? 🦈💙 #epauletteshark #greatbarrierreef #queensland #heronisland #australia #reef @Australia @Queensland, Australia
