Michael :
Being raised as a woman I was always told to marry a doctor or a lawyer so they can take care of me. Literally told this my whole childhood.

Young widow here, and even social security death benefits are based on my late husbands earnings!

Dudes are also hella threatened when their partner is more educated or wealthy. I have a PhD and would totally date pizza guy. But they’re intimidated by my degree 😬

Which is wild how Classism seeps in because in Oregon as a plumber you make about $60 an hour. It isn't a bad job it's just a blue collar one.

I not only dated a man that used to work at a pizza place, I married him. I have my bachelor’s degree and now a SAHM. We plan on opening our own pizza place soon.

There is love on all levels. You can find some one who makes more, less, or the same bread you do. The limitations are what you set for yourself.

I feel like EVERYONE should get their match. Be with someone who makes the same amount as you. That way there’s no power struggle, neither person dependant on the other.

Ok yes but also if you are a woman who has money no matter how much they say they don’t mind, they mind. Eventually they let it slip that they resent it.

I was told as a young woman to marry first for money and then the second marriage is for love.

I was raised by a strong, incredible mother who technically out-earned my father albeit slightly. Never once did either belittle the other so this behavior being so prevalent has always disgusted me

I remember when I was little that to be more successful you had to add the perfect partner and I felt like that was classes to me but it seemed like everyone else that was okay and it felt so wrong.

I’ve never dated based on income but I will say it was always a harder “sell” to my dad if the man wasn’t making good money. He was more leery of the dude & worried they’d be a mooch

My mom told me that your man’s paycheck is a bonus and not part of your salary because nobody who gets a divorce expected it. Still married to my dad for 35+ years. 🤣

I think that u said it very well, we tell women that their worth is tied to the worth of their partner (like socioeconomically) and instead of telling women to just do well we say marry well smh

I make enough money for me to live the life I want. I need a man who makes enough to enjoy those things as well.

When I married at 21, earning potential wasn’t even on my radar. That was a mistake. He also had no drive, no interest in personal development/growth. At 47 he’s still broke and asking for shifts off.

I dated someone who swore up and down that what I did for a living didn’t have any bearing on my “value” but their actions were always counter to their words.

I have a lifestyle I've created for myself. I want a partner that can live similarly. Sometimes it's not that deep. It's about lifestyle.

It also has implications when building a family. at least in the USA. all other things being the same, the guy with a higher income means less fear for security should we decide to have children.-
