Housing fund is not tax! You will get same amount from your employer to deposit to your account. Then you can pay your loan or rent with the fund. In some city, employer pays 3. 5 times as you pay.

I just looked up their tax rates and $100k USD or 710k Yuan should be 162k Yuan or $23k tax (35% minus a flat deduction). Still not terrible.

Groceries probably costs you $200-$300 a month for a family of three to four. Eating out is probably gonna cost you $10 per person. Not just tax. But also the commodity prices.
