Hydrogens round trip efficiency (splitting it from water, compressing it, chilling it, transporting it, reacting it in a fuel cell) loses 50%-75% of the energy input. It's too wasteful to be viable.

Tge reason hydrogen did not get ahead was pure economics, it cost more to extract hydrogen than the energy you could get from the H extracted. That is no longer the case. Electrical is just a bridge.

the amount of power you get from hydrogen is massively less then it takes to get the hydrogen. I would love if they found a tech to change that but we can produce enough electricity to support cars
