@middleeasteye: "Israel has the right to full security, and it is our duty" Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas assures his willingness to negotiate with Israel if the world recognised the Palestinian state during his speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Saudi Arabia. He emphasises, "We can negotiate with Israel on borders and other matters." Additionally, he affirms, "Israel has the right to full security, and it is our duty." Abbas reiterates his call for Palestinians to have the right to determine their fate and establish an independent state. He urges for Palestine's full UN membership, pointing out its "permanent observer entity" status since 2011, and appeals to various countries, especially European states, to recognise Palestine as they do Israel. Borge Brende, the president of WEF, announced at a press conference in Riyadh prior to the event that Abbas and other international officials would convene in the Saudi capital over the weekend for Gaza ceasefire talks on the sidelines of the forum.
