Michelangelo's sculpture Pieta really depicts this in my opinion. Jesus's dead body is being cradled by Mary even though he's a grown man because that is still her baby.

My grandma was an orphan raised by nuns in the Catholic Church. She always said mother Mary was her actual mother. When she became sick she would cry for us to let her be with her mommy.
