I'm a deaf grad student (4.0) and I transcribe notes instead of having an interpreter for every class. It allows for a deeper understanding. I was not born deaf so I can compare the difference.

I would still have to take notes. I learn better by writing what I hear. I used to record my lectures on my old iPhone even if they did not allow it. I would start the recording in my car on my phone
