I am Canadian, and know people who are surrogate mothers. I know that there is exploitation, however the people I know are actively choosing to do surrogacy and are happy to do it.

Surrogacy is at least a route for gay couples. Adoption is an attempt to correct a wrong. In no way perfect, but at least it's not bringing into the world more children.

The contrargument of "adoption is allowed" assumes that because adoption is allowed means it's morally neutral - many people that adoption is always traumatic even if the child is too young to +1️⃣

I think since this IS happening, there should be financial rights regulated for the surrogate mother rather than just forbidding it. Personally I’m against surrogacy and infant adoption

in Brazil it's forbidden to receive monetary gain for surrogacy. voluntary is allowed, but you have to be a family member or get clearence from the medical federal board, to assure no exploitation

In my country 🇦🇺 we only allow altruistic surrogacy which is heavily regulated, and it remains very expensive. I have an emotive discomfort about the commodification of a child.

In US, majority of adoption is step parent adoption. 2nd is adoption from foster care. In both, 1-2 bio parent(s) didn’t consent to the adoption. It was allowed under ‘child’s best interests.’

I didn’t say their looks “change” to look more like the birth parent, I said they look (a lot) like the birth parent. (Not all birth parents who use someone else’s eggs are surrogates …. 🙄).

My Hawaiian friends told me of a custom where if your friend was sterile, you gave that person one of your kids. It makes a bigger family. I'd be more in favor of surrogacy if they kept in touch.
