I feel like there’s a difference between writing including racist characters and the writer inserting their own racist agendas throughout the book and I think Silvia Plath is the latter so I’ll never read her book or poems

I get this. I’m Filipino and Mexican. I think Sylvia even takes a swing on Irish/Italian Catholics. But if we can’t enjoy their prose they’ve kind of won in a sense? Also I can assure you people will write stuff today that people 100 years from now find “wrong”. “Wrong” is unfortunately fluid with the times.

We can appreciate good writing and understand that the author may be separate from its characters as moshfegh said books need to be amoral and apolitical to challenge us readers otherwise why bother ?
