@croydonextra: These were the scenes in Croydon as immigration removed some of the first people to be sent to Rwanda under the government’s new Rwanda bill. Detainees will be transferred to detention centres, which have been prepared for the operation. They will be held until they are put on planes to Rwanda. Some will be put on the first flight due to take off this summer. Officials plan to hold asylum seekers who turn up for routine meetings at immigration service offices or bail appointments and will also pick people up nationwide. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said the first flight should take off in 10 to 12 weeks. The first failed asylum seeker has akready been sent to Rwanda after he voluntarily agreed to leave the UK. The unnamed man went to Kigali on a commercial flight after being offered up to £3,000. He was flown to Rwanda on Monday as part of a side scheme for those who have gone through the asylum process and have had their claims rejected. #croydonextra #Rwanda #immigration #detention #homeoffice
