I got a used transmission and it had the same issue which is a bad torque converter.

Speaking from experience it’s usually easier to pull engine and trans then separate them. But you got it either way

Just swapped the trans in my 04 Wrx with no knowledge or experience. Gonna have to do it again cuz apparently I bent something in the clutch when stabbing trans in 😭

So far toyota makes descent cvt trannys on the other hand Nissans and Subaru are garbage

Make sure the shaft between torque converter and transmission is seated properly will cause transmission failure
