Part 7 | There was an awkward silence between us. My attention shifted when a soft fur brushed my arm—one of his dogs climbed onto my lap and curled up. "Hi, baby girl," I whispered, stroking her silky coat. My eyes caught the tag on her collar. "Stacey! Nice to meet you, Stacey!" I could feel Jeo's glances even without looking. "Dito ka," he called Stacey, patting his leg. I pouted. "Bakit? Gusto mo rin?" He asked, teasing, and I nearly choked on my own saliva. "Freak." I massaged my head. Ang sakit niya sa ulo. "Good girl," he murmured. He pulled a small box from the front compartment. Treats. Of course. Cute. "Gusto mo rin?" he teased, holding one out to me like I was another pet. I scoffed. "Gago ka ba?" He echoed right back, mocking me. "Gago ka ba?" "Can you stop?" My patience was thinning. "Can you stop?" He exaggerated my voice, even copying my expression. I crossed my arms, forcing my gaze out the window. Petty wars weren't worth the headache. But he wasn't done. "Lagot ka, Mochi," he whispered to the other dog, who was quietly watching. "Kagatin mo nga." I nearly unbuckled my seatbelt out of pure panic. His chuckle split wide as if this was the best entertainment he'd had all day. Snatching Mochi protectively, I muttered, "Siraulo amo mo." Eyes still fixed on the road, he replied, "Huwag mo akong siraan sa aso ko." The smirk tugging at his lips. Medyo nakaramdam ako ng lamig since I was only wearing a dress. I shifted in my seat, trying not to shiver, and angled the aircon vents away from me. Maybe he noticed, because he lowered the temperature a little. Then, without a word, he reached behind him and pulled out a jacket—his varsity jacket, stitched with his number and surname across the back. "Thanks," I murmured, slipping it on. The warmth was instant, his scent even more distracting. "I'll give it back later." He just nodded, eyes still on the road. "Buti hindi ka pinagkakaguluhan sa Ateneo?" I asked curiously. His family name carried weight. Well-known. Well-respected. A very Filipino standard, really. "We're not everyone's cup of tea," he said simply. Fair enough. "And Ateneo has this respectful environment. That's why I chose blue." "Why not UP?" I pressed. UP was everyone's dream school. "I actually got an offer," he admitted. "Turned it down though." "Why?" He sighed, then glanced at me. "State universities are funded by taxpayers. They're built so kids who can't afford glossy, air-conditioned private schools can still dream big. So when someone rich takes a slot, it's like stealing a seat at the table—one that was never meant for them in the first place." I froze, caught off guard. Damn. No wonder so many people looked up to him. I never realized he could be like this—honest, sharp—even when the cameras weren't rolling. "Where am I gonna drop you off?" he asked, maneuvering carefully to dodge the traffic. "Ayala Triangle na lang," I said simply, glancing down at Mochi who had dozed off on my lap. Jeo's eyes softened. "Iiyak 'yan pag nagising," he chuckled. "Wala ka bang pag-iiwanan?" I asked. He shook his head. “We're here," he announced. I looked outside—true enough, we'd arrived. For some reason, the ride felt quick. Or maybe I was just... entertained. Carefully, I lifted Mochi, but the moment I opened the door, he stirred awake. Just like Jeo predicted, the little thing started to whimper, as if he already knew he was about to be left behind. "Attachment issues," Jeo chuckled, quickly reaching over to scoop Mochi into his arms. "Thank you," I told him with a smile. "Promise, last na 'to." "No worries. Si Hans naman ang sisingilin ko, eh." He grinned. And God—there was something about that smile that made my heart pound. I waved my last goodbye and slammed the door shut. But just as I was about to walk away— "Anyway..." His voice cut through the night air. I turned back, caught off guard. "…my surname suits you.” He proudly said, eyes lingering on my jacket. F*ck you, Jeremiah. And to hell with these butterflies. #jeoong #jeremiahong #ongfam #au
