@ashleyjames: Can a mum really have it all? It’s a question that I see a lot (which is funny because we never see it with dads), and I’ve realised that it depends what ALL is. What they mean is can we have a career and a social life and a baby. And yes, we can… if we’re lucky enough to have a support network and the funds to pay the extortionate childcare costs. and even then it’s hard to fit friendships and alone time in the mix! If you’re a stay at home mum - for me you are the real OGs! I genuinely see going to work as a mini holiday! Getting to commute with no kids? THE DREAM! you guys show up every single day and I feel like people brush it off as “not working”. Single mums - wow you guys are the absolute goats. I honestly don’t know how you do it without support. And yet you do. You show up and you juggle and I can’t imagine how little time you get to yourself. I struggle and I have a supportive partner. I can’t believe society has demonised single mums when you stayed and supported your kids. And to the working mums - wow! We just have a non step juggle. Childcare and school hours not coinciding with work hours, the cost, the juggle. It’s truly just amazing that we keep our heads afloat. No one questions dads about when they go back to work or ask who is looking after the baby! I got some really exciting work news at This Morning today, and it made me really reflective of my own journey and the sacrifice since becoming a mum. Turning up to tv studios back when Alf wouldn’t take a bottle and Tommy having to take time off work. Accidentally breastfeeding on tv! Taking Ada with me to shoots and dj gigs and on trains up to Leeds for Steph’s Packed lunch! My mum in law coming with me to red carpet events to watch Ada for me so I could go! Turning up to This Morning even when often I’d had no sleep. The logistical nightmare of childcare. It’s all led to where I am now. I feel so lucky to have the support network and feel even luckier at where things are going. I hope I’m showing Alf and Ada that a woman can have a career if she wants! ❤️
