As a former roadie/AV tech it doesn’t matter. Good connectors (Hubbell) should have plenty of room to cross conductors and still grip the cable jacket

It does make a difference, your wires will match the lugs without twisting if you put the correct cap on the correct end

It all depends on which way the wire is twisted, if it’s to the right that is definitely male. To the left it’s then turn the cord around because the left is usually wrong
