@missclairebenjamin: 🚨Handling the “clueless” one👇 When someone junior doesn’t show understanding of the importance of meeting deadlines and taking responsibility for their part, it can be very frustrating and stressful. It’s especially stressful if it’s going to mean letting other people down like a client and you’re the one who will have to deal with it. In a situation like this it’s understandable to feel angry. It’s also important to try not to act from that anger as it’s unlikely the person has done it on purpose. I’d recommend the following: 1️⃣ If you suspect there is something else going on or this is out of character or you know they are totally overloaded check in on them first and foremost. 2️⃣ Ask them what their plan is. They may have one. If they don’t… 3️⃣ Raise their awareness of the impact so they can learn from the situation. This maximises the chances of it not happening again. 4️⃣ Be supportive. Ask them when they can get the information to you. If it absolutely can’t wait support them on this occasion to get it done in time for the deadline so they’re not stressing alone. 5️⃣ Communicate very clear expectations for the future. Sometimes we may not have communicated clearly about. For example: “Going forward I need you to communicate with me X hours/ days in advance if you think you’re not going to be able to meet a client deadline. Does that sound reasonable?” 📌 Please be mindful that the approach shown in this video will not fit every situation so always use your own judgement and adapt it to suit your own circumstances. You’ve got this! 💬 Have you ever been on either side of this? “Haven’t had time yet” sounds like that person is overworked. Manager should probably set a reasonable expectation with the client first.

This is a really good video. It's exhausting though when dealing with it repeatedly.

What happens if a client is unwilling to allow a late response and then you have to get it done by the end of the day?

If you have to personally set the expectations each time for a basic requirement, and personally prioritise the work for them, they simply need to find a new career.
