Retirees also didn’t put in the 6.2% we have now. It was 1% before 1950, 1.5% till 1978, 5% till 1990. Plus it’s paid in by both the employer and employee. The 12.4% should go into 401k or Roth IRA

I learned my stepdads parents recieve a combined $5k a month just from social security. My great grandmother gets less than $200 a month in social security. It’s not looking good for us either.

what they should be doing is giving you individual accounts that has good interest rate, it’ll grow over the years and it won’t run out because how much is in there depends on how much you put.

My employer has kinda opt out of SS. The percentage that both of us would have paid to the government instead goes into another retirement account of mine. I won't be eligible for SS down the road.
