We’ve been heading out with @topwater_tales and @oceanactivenick for the last 8 years targeting yellow fin and it was that time of year again. Few of us hit the 7 hour drive down to Oman on Friday, weather was forecasted to be a rough one but with Summer being peak season for yellow fin, we weren’t going to miss out. We headed out at 7am in search of pods of dolphin targeting yellow fin tuna tagging along. It was a slow start with big swells as expected. Few rats landed on poppers half their size but no usual big surface bust ups/ frenzies in sight. Was looking to be a tough day in the 40 degree C heat with the local guys struggling to find anything over the 20kg mark. It wasn’t looking promising. By around 3PM the swells died down and the old man finally managed to hook up and land a 40KG one, enough for some decent steaks but the goal was to try land one above the 76KG mark landed on the previous trip a few months prior. We drifted off away from the local Omani locals and found a smaller pod of dolphins. One of the boys hooked up big, line screaming off before having the popper thrown - hopes picked up for that big one. We followed them for about another hour. We were about to call it a day and then boom, big explosion on the surface and I hooked up. Stella 18K, zenaq PE10 had her on the boat in 25mins. Official weigh in at 94.2kg’s, a new PB and a bunch of big smiles on the boat. Another memorable trip! A big thanks to @topwater_tales and @oceanactivenick - absolute legends!
