@samlowcooks: Ep 1 | SOY SAUCE - HOW TO SHOP AT YOUR LOCAL ASIAN GROCER Here I quickly break down the common types of soy sauce, again there’s not one that’s better as they are all used and preferred for different applications. This will take a bit of trial and error but that’s partly the fun of it, also I will often have 3-5 different types of soy sauce in my pantry at all times, from cheap to more expensive, dark and seasoned. Let me know your favourite soy types and/or brands to try for myself! Ps. I love Korean soy sauces too, they didn’t have them when I was filming. 🎥 at Jadan on Dominion Rd, Mt Roskill. #soysauce #howtoshop #asiangrocer #shoppingguide #masterchef #modernchinese #Foodie #recipes
Usually my go-to is Lee Kum Kee brand.. for no reason

Hi Sam! I know this is a really long shot, but I am hoping you might help me find a particular soy sauce. It is light, and a slight bit tangy, it almost taste like a tiny dash of ponzu / yuzu is (1/2)

Thanks so much, I’ve been meaning to google this because I’m lazy and use the same cheap watery one for everything. Turns out it’s not the worst choice - we rarely dip 😜

Great insights. I (like most people) just use the one for everything mainly because I didn’t know the uniqueness of each

So is there a difference between the different soy sauces from different countries? Is Japanese and Korean or Thai Soy Sauces all the same?

Also good to note that a lot of the cheaper spy sauces don't extract the soy beans "traditionally/properly" and skip most of the steps by using hydrochloric acid. Brands like Kikkoman don't.

I think there's too much ketchap manis to use in a dish. I'm yet to find that limit, but I know it exists
