@relationshipswithaly: TIPS to stop excessive self-monitoring: 1. Speak your thoughts out loud. If you’re with someone you trust and you find yourself self-monitoring, be brave and ask them for feedback on your racing thoughts. This sounds like: Hey, are you noticing my breath right now? Hey, does it seem like I’m sitting too close to you? Obviously you won’t do this in every situation, but try it with someone you trust and get reassurance that these thoughts are just thoughts, they are not reality. 2. Practice being physically present. Focus on things that are tangible, like the feeling of your clothes, or the pressure of the ground beneath your feet. Spend a few moments noticing physical reality to get you out of your head. 3. Practice self acceptance. Before social interactions, take 3 deep breaths and remind yourself of things you know to be true about yourself: I am friendly, I am kind, I am intelligent. Simple reminders that can help re-ground you when you start to doubt trivial things. Disclaimer: IG is not therapy. This content is for educational and entertainment purposes only.
