My favorite Pulitzer winning novel is Andersonville by Mackinlay Kantor. It influenced McCarthy in numerous ways, including punctuation.

I love it when people mention Louise Erdrich. If you loved The Nightwatchman, I HIGHLY recommend you read her novel The Plague of Doves. It changed me as a person.
