My favorite Pulitzer winning novel is Andersonville by Mackinlay Kantor. It influenced McCarthy in numerous ways, including punctuation.

I love it when people mention Louise Erdrich. If you loved The Nightwatchman, I HIGHLY recommend you read her novel The Plague of Doves. It changed me as a person.

I love all of these books but my favorite Pulitzers would be The Fixer (Bernard Malamud), the executioners song (Mailer), and American Pastoral (Roth). Oh and the Rabbit books of Updike
