It’s metabolic adaptation if you tank your metabolism from dieting you will gain weight and yes you need to reverse diet to increase your metabolism to then be able to lose weight.

I think moreso it’s that restricting too low leads to bingeing/giving up. So the *attempt* to stick to an aggressive deficit and the shame associated is to blame. Solution is to *aim* for a higher/more realistic intake.
