My take home car is a 1984 Dodge Diplomat. It saves wear and tear on my personal vehicle. My Chief is pretty lenient with off duty use of it but we are a small agency and that is not the norm

I get what you’re saying. However, an officer moved in across the street with a take home car. I feel much safer. If I felt threatened I would go to his house for help. I live alone.

Also my car stays cleaner and better maintained. I hand wash it once a week and am meticulous about keeping the inside clean and maintained. When I was in a fleet car there was constantly a headlight

If it’s not a take home car does the officer that’s in charge of it at the time pay to put gas in it or does the police department

We joke about a take home car that never seems to be on duty! I drive down that road in the early morning afternoon weekdays weekends even at 4am the other day cuz power went out so I went to the..

I can see both sides to this. My father in law had a take home car. He lived in the country. Saved a lot of wear and tear on his personal vehicle.

I live in a rural area with a take home unit. I’d say it’s better because you go 10-8 in your driveway. But, there have been people knocking on my door on my day off asking for an officer.

I’d say pretty rare event to get flagged down after shift the time I get done, but clock in and out at driveway. Mine is tucked in garage, because I agree with the not everyone needs to know

It's good to have a Take-home especially to work extra duty Jobs. You can go straight to them, and you don't have to go to the station to get a patrol and return it. Take-home saves so much more time.

I love having one. I spend maybe twenty bucks on gas a month plus no wear and tear on my car. I clock in and out in my driveway. If I gotta do something off the clock then I just mark back on duty ot.

I start the academy soon and my agency gives out take home cars unless you live outside city limits. Mine will be tucked in a garage. My agency is very short on officers so taking on extra hours makes the availability process much quicker. Plus they kinda cool about it on using it for personal use or training scheduled by the agency.

I didn’t have one my first year. And I’ve had one for the last year. The benefits far outweigh the cons. I’ve only been flagged down once at my house and it was just an old lady that needed help
