@emsavenger: There is a lot that could be covered with LVADs, however, there is a great resource out there. @worldsokayestmedicpod covered this. I'll link the episode in my Linktree. But I'll hit a few beats here- namely how the motor works, how that effects vital signs, how a patient may be unaffected by arrhythmias, and whether compressions are safe. #fyp #Paramedictok #paramedicsoftiktok #medicsoftiktok #medictok #emtsoftiktok #emstok #Paramedic #paramedics #firstresponders #firstrespondertok #firstrespondersoftiktok #firefightertok #firefightersoftiktok #paramedicstudent #emtstudent #emstiktok #emergencymedicine #ambulance #ambulancetok #911 #paramedicstudentsoftiktok #emtstudent #emtstudents #emtstudentsoftiktok #nursetok #nursesoftiktok #nurse #nurse #rntok #rnsoftiktok #CriticalCare #CriticalCareParamedic #CriticalCareParamedicsoftiktok #CriticalCareTok #CriticalCareofTikTok #FlightParamedicsoftiktok #FlightParamedictok #FPC #CCPC #Firemen #FiremenofTikTok #firemanTok #FireMedic #FireMedics #FireMedicsofTikTok #cardiacarrest #OHCA #resuscitation #FOAM #FOAMED #FOAMEMS #12lead #12leadecg #12leadekg #Cardiology @AlmostEnoughMedicalTraining

Bob :
Most LVAD pts have a "go bag" in my experience with extra batteries, a spare controller, and a phone number to their VAD coordinator that is usually a 24 hour line.

Also, don’t ignore the family/caretaker. They are given so much training and instruction and probably know more about the equipment than most EMS personnel.

The most important thing is that the patient doesn’t travel 6 hrs away from home to visit family and realize they forgot their charger and batteries and only have 3 hours left of charge.SMH

ABCs x2: Auscultate, battery/backup power, consult with VAD coordinator. Also, capnography is reliable

UMBC taught me that with compressions, you give a 50% chance of survival, without compressions, they have a 0% chance of survival. When in doubt, do the compressions

Had a pt years ago with a late 90's LVAD. He ran his car into a pole because the vad failed and he was sitting in his seatbelt...pumping himself manually.

2 of us in my class got to see an LVAD in basic school. She had an infection where the tube went into her body. Her dr wouldn’t allow the ER to give antibiotics.
