this! as a music technology student I've seen it go the other way too. people will think vocals are entirely authentic when they have autotune added, just because they don't sound 'robotic'/processed

I swear, when your recording vocals, pitch is the last thing you look for, with software like melodyne it’s so easy to correct, you look for tone and “how clean it is” more than anything

Also I’m pretty confident a lot of those people think that reverb is auto tune. Most creators use at least a little bit of reverb and I see so many people say they’re using auto tune 🙄

Properly used, you can’t spot autotune. As an old-school engineer who is recorded phenomenal vocalists, there have been times when I would have killed for autotune. In the 80s, we did it manually -
