it is done in some stores. it is convenient however you're taking away a job of someone. possibly a first job or some senior's job. There are also scan it yourself. I don't do it I'll go to a cashier

In PA I shop at a store called GIANT if you use their "scan it" app.. you just use your cell phone to shop.

As others have said - Sam’s Club, Amazon grocery, IKEA and a few others let you use their phone app to do this too.
