It doesn't take off hard plaque/tartar, that's for ultrasonic scalers at the dentist, if it comes off it's still softer plaque/debris, maybe even a filling

hard plaque doesn't come off. don't get fooled by it. I still had to go dentist to remove hard plaque but I must say now the dentist cleaned my tooth it's a fantastic tool to maintain the teeth
