It was 5:30pm on a Tuesday and Tomas called me, “hey, have you checked your DM’s?”, “no, why?” “There’s a baby boy with Down syndrome, I think it’s legit, I think he could be ours…” I quickly pulled up Instagram and searched through my DM’s, there it was, someone reaching out about a situation they had learned about and had been following our journey of wanting to adopt a baby with Down syndrome. We had been a waiting family with the Down syndrome Adoption Network for two years. We were trusting God’s timing but were also dreaming about the day we would be bringing our baby home. I scanned the message and replied “we’re interested, would love more info”. That was the start to having this beautiful boy in my arms now smooching with the cutest kisses ever 🥹. We got in touch with Luca’s mom’s attorney, she was wonderful and took us through all the steps. A baby boy that would be born the beginning of October in Alabama, it felt so right, I can’t even describe to you how much I knew this was the baby for our family. We FaceTimed mom, she had dreamed about the family having another child with Down syndrome. It was confirmation for her and us, we loved her so much from day one. We started getting baby ready; crib, car seat, toys, pediatrician, and Amazon deliveries 4 times a day. We only told our immediate family and it was so special to be excited with them. Mom’s c-section was scheduled, we loaded the car and drove from Florida to Alabama to meet our sweet boy. October 11th is still one of the best days of my life. I got to be in the room and watch sweet Lukie be born. I squeezed her hand, we cried, she’s the bravest, most selfless person I know.
