It would work if you could get some engraved wooden panels in same color as the railing, and then put the lights in. Or use vintage lamp shades/glass with the same lights attached to the wall

I think that would work well, but honestly I don’t think you really need it! Perhaps it’s different in person, but it seems like the staircase is able to really pop all on its own!
