@the_green_bird_brigade: This may sound rude, but if you don’t want an animal that flies, don’t get a bird. I had an argument going on in the comment section of one of my videos recently. There is a misconception out there that there is no harm in clipping a bird’s wings and that letting the wings grow back means the bird will fly again. Not always. Also, A breeder that clips a baby bird’s wings “after fledging” doesn’t understand how fledging works. It also isn’t safer and you aren’t more likely to lose a bird that is a capable flyer. When an animal that instinctively knows it can fly is made physically unable to fly, a whole host of problems can arise. 1) Muscle atrophy: Even fully flighted birds may experience this if not given the opportunity to fly enough. 2) Loss of confidence: Imagine knowing you could fly but every time you try, you fall, and it hurts. Eventually, you would give up trying. This is the most common reason why parrots whose wings were previously clipped may not fly even when their wings grow back. 3) Increased aggression: When a bird is not able to fly away from situations they want to get out of, they will bite more. 4) Health: Birds respiratory systems are built for flight. A bird that doesn’t fly is more likely to be overweight/obese and suffer from heart disease. All that said, I know many well-meaning people have in the past or currently clip their birds wings. I was one of them. I learned the hard way how detrimental it was so now I encourage all of my bird’s to fly. #amazon #parrot #flight #rescue

Thank you for educating on this! Some people get so defensive about their choices, and I wish they’d drop the ego and do right by their pets 💔

we adopted our conure from a family who clipped him. he's able to fly but he's not nearly as good as his unclipped brother. he's super bad at landing, too, which can be dangerous.

Birds are meant to fly. We had a cuckatoo with clipped wings and even as a kid it broke my heart.

To anyone looking into taking on a pet DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST. What kind? Space requirements. Exercise needs. Dietary needs. Can you afford. How long do they live. How big will they get. Then decide.

That’s beautiful! Who cares if it’s “rude”. People need to hear that. Animals deserve respect & to take away their very essence is cruel. Just my opinion but I’m right! 😂

Clipping flight feathers has a detrimental effect just like declawing a cat. You're taking away their number 1 defense! 🥺

I took in an Amazon parrot 2 years ago. Previous owner said his wings were clipped when they got him, so they continued clipping his wings. My Egor is now close to 40 years old and he does not fly (1)

I’ll never understand how anyone could think clipping a birds wings is ok. I’m a cat mom and it goes the same for declawing cats. Just don’t get the damn animal, but as we know humans are selfish smh.
