The "immigration crisis" is one of the most common and dangerous stories ever told. It's an archetypal scapegoat story. It's a distraction tactic -- projecting blame for real or imaginary problems onto a particular group of people to ignite feelings of superiority, seperateness, paranoia, revenge, and create the need to take action, often agressive and violent. Scapegoat stories are used to justify terrible atrocities like the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group (genocide). We should do our best to guard against being manipulated by scapegoating stories by learning to identify them quickly and easily. Examples: the ongoing U.S. government-backed genocide of Palestine, U.S. slavery and segregation and the discriminatory application of our criminal justice system, the ethnic cleansing of native Americans, the illegal military invasion of Iraq, the holocaust, the Chinese Exclusion Act, Japanese American Internment, the Rwandan Genocide, the Syrian Refugee Crisis, the Cambodian Killing Fields, the ongoing crises in Sudan, and Congo by US-backing for authoritarian regimes, economic exploitation of resources, military aid, and corporate interests and the "immigration crisis" popularized in right wing movements in the USA, France, the UK, Germany, and so many others. All made possible by scapegoating. #immigrant #immigration #native #bordercontrol #openborders #nationalism #bloodline #america #history
