Finding it amusing, Jeff decided to befriend the groundhog and named him “Chunk.” While Jeff tended to his own garden, he created another one accessible to Chunk. The groundhog soon attracted a partner named Nibbles, for whom Jeff even built a picnic table. As Chunk and Nibbles’ family grew to five, including their children Nugget, Chip, and Chibbles, Jeff eagerly awaited their emergence from hibernation in February. With Chunk’s family expanding, Jeff learned to distinguish each member by unique traits and shared his harvest with them. He now sees Chunk as the leader, estimating his age at six, and recognizing Chunk Jr.’s emerging leadership. Jeff also interacted with Snacks, a member of the groundhog family who had dental issues, showing his care for all members.
