I actually am running this very concept as a "learn to play" one shot on StartPlaying! It's called Memories of the Chosen, and everyone has amnesia 😁

I did something like this for a one-shot. They woke up in the underdark without their memories. At the end, they each got to choose whether to start new lives or to recover what they’d lost.

I did this once, the dm had us all create characters for a one shot, and then when we actually started it didn’t matter. Turns out, we were playing untitled goose game 😂

I've run this with characters with transient, retrograde amnesia caused by psionic trauma. It worked a treat.

best campaign I ran was the players playing as themselves. we took a night to figure stats (intelligence hurt feelings). then next night they were abducted by a wizard to another realm
