The European Wels catfish is renowned for its impressive size and substantial weight relative to its length. While this particular catch wasn’t the largest catfish ever, it was a good size and certainly put up a strong fight😊. Fishing for catfish holds a special place in my heart👌. Though it’s not the easiest species to catch, the anticipation of reeling in a monster from a wild river is worth the effort—that’s all part of the challenge💯! There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing a plan come together and successfully landing some catfish. Typically, I prefer active fishing to locate and understand where catfish are, but sometimes changing tactics is necessary when boat fishing isn’t the best option, as it was this time. The first day went very well with multiple catfish caught. However, after a few days, the catch rate slowed, and the fish finder showed fewer catfish with each drift😬. Consequently, I decided to switch to bank fishing in spots where I’d previously seen catfish, assuming they were resting on the bottom rather than actively searching for food. This strategy paid off, and I managed to hook catfish every day, sometimes with double strikes😎. This experience reinforces that sticking to one fishing style or pre-made plan isn’t always effective🙃. When fishing for catfish, adaptability is crucial, much like with other types of fishing.
