The ONE more important thing I learned from backpacking⬇️🌎 (over the last 7 months) This backpacking trip has been way different than the ones I’ve done in the past. The main difference is that I had the opportunity to sail with @sailingrippleeffect to help remote communities all around the South Pacific for three months. Being someone who had never sailed before her in life, learning this new skill was a challenge. Not only did life on the boat build my confidence and push me out of my comfort zone, it showed me that no matter where you go on this globe, everyone is still looking for the same thing. Everyone, even the village children that had only seen five sailboats in all of their lives or the grandma making a roof out of palm leaf, everyone wants to be seen, heard, welcomed, and loved. ✨Walking out of these villages I learned this: traveling isn’t all about the places you go and the things you get to see, it’s about the impact you can have. Yes, you can go an volunteer at a local nonprofit or bring school supplies to children in need, but you can also just be a listening ear or a helping hand. You can become a friend to someone who is from a different walk of life than yourself. Sometimes, being a “hero” looks like just being human. Showing someone that you care about them, their lives, and their problems. I can’t even begin to tell you about all of the friendships I cultivated during my time sailing, but i know that we both had incredible impacts on each other 🫶🏼 #solofemaletraveler #sailingtheworld #travelforgood #backpackinglife
