It's good for either A) you think an establishment's drip has been sitting out all day (so obviously not yours). Or B) pour over or dip isn't available and you want a cup not a shot of coffee.

Disagree with this. Flavors are easily distinguishable in americanos. I always get one when trying new coffee shops to really see how their espresso is.

If I get a drip coffee with ice, the amount of coffee I get varies based on each cafe’s ice quantities. An americano provides standard shots. It’s about consistency.
