In California my high school was completely open, no fences or gates. Anyone could walk in or out from multiple locations

This is totally wild to me. I can’t imagine what this does to the students. Here in Denmark we need no security at schools, and they’ll be all open. Anyone can walk right in any time of the day.

I’m in the uk and the only security our school have is high fences all around and an access controlled gate (it’s open in the morning for students but the teachers take turns checking landyards)

So wild. I grew up in New Zealand and there were no security guards or police at any of my schools. I knew some people that had 1-2 security guards at their HS but it wasnt common at all.

My husband went to high school in the Bronx and there’s was pretty much the same. He thought lockers were only in movies for the longest time 😭

we have 5 security guards and 1 SRO for a school of 300-400. students are escorted from class to class and they get escorted to the bathrooms as a class. they also have to have clear or mesh backpacks

U.K. and this sounds so crazy, we have big schools in the big cities but airport style security is just not a thing

Wow this is just really interesting to me. I’m a teacher within inner melbourne Australia (a city of 5+ million) and we don’t even have a closed gate during school hours. Such a different lifestyle.

Even in my rural school we had a local sheriff on duty always, but he would also teach safety classes and was great at building relationships

In my high school in Canada, all we had was a school resource officer, which was a city police officer with an office in the basement.

I teach in CT and we also have security in our middle and high schools. We also have a school resource officer, but she’s great! The kids LOVE her.

I can’t say for other places but I grew up inner city in Canada we didn’t have security like that. I think there was a police but you only talk to them if you’re in trouble.

From an Australian school we once had a homeless person asleep in our garden thinking it was a park. Everyone just watched as the teacher went down and kindly asked him to leave. No threat really
