This crash scared the hell out of us as her parents. No doubt is it one of the hardest crashes we have seen her take but her strength to overcome it to try again is a testament to her resilience and talent. Crashes are hard to watch, but the reality is that they do happen. Especially when you are trying new things. In order to let little Cashy follow her heart and fly we have to put our fear aside and let her push herself how she wants. With that being said, we were lucky it wasn’t worse of a slam. This sport is gnarly. In order to progress (if that is her choice) she is going to have to go bigger and faster which could result in a few bumps, bruises or breaks. It is our job as her parents to make sure that we know how to help her or at the very least calm her down while help arrives. Whit is both first aid and first responder certified. What you don’t see in this shortened video is that we both saw the impact in person so we know where and how she hit. Whit stopped and held up other riders while I did a quick check on the spine and neck to make sure she could move out of the jump landing. After we got her to the side and after calming her down we started with injury protocol. We asked questions, and then started having her move everything in order to distract her as well as teach her how to really concentrate on if there is pain. We sat on the side of that jump for a good 30 minutes checking and then laughing. Once we all, Cash included, determined that she was fine she went off to smash the rest of this long run to the lift. Not only did she get herself down to the lift, she wanted redemption on the jumps and was determined to give them another go. I know that people get mad at the crashes, hence why we don’t put many up but they truly are an important part of the process. Our hope is that by posting this video, it will help at least one parent with injury protocol and to remain calm after a heavy crash. #snowboarding #parentingtips #parentingdoneright #keepcalm #wholesome #raisinggirls #resilience
