Albert doesn’t worry about yesterday. He doesn’t wonder whether he made a mistake last week, and he certainly isn’t lying awake thinking about what might happen tomorrow. If it’s snowing, he runs through the snow. If there’s music, he looks like he’s dancing. If the kitchen door is open, he walks into the kitchen. And if somebody hands him an In-N-Out hamburger, as far as Albert is concerned, life has turned out pretty well. Animals seem to understand something that humans spend their entire lives trying to learn: the only moment we actually get to live is the one we’re in. We carry yesterday around with us and borrow trouble from tomorrow. Albert carries neither. He wakes up every morning ready for whatever happens next—and somehow manages to find something interesting in almost all of it. Living in the moment doesn’t mean that the past doesn’t matter or that we shouldn’t plan for the future. It means not allowing either one to steal too much from today. There will always be something to regret, something to fix, and something ahead to worry about. Meanwhile, the snow is falling, the people you love are standing beside you, and there may even be a hamburger coming. Maybe that’s one of the things Albert has been teaching us all along. Run when you feel like running. Dance when you feel like dancing. Eat the hamburger when someone hands you one. Love the people around you. And don’t miss today because you were too busy thinking about yesterday or tomorrow. #ranchograndeojai #livingmybestlife #family #food
