@thatmortgageadvisor: Replying to @Elisabeth Barker buying a house from your parents is actually really straight forward. The didference between the market value vs what they will sell it to you for becomes your deposit. You will still need a bit of money for legal fees #buyingahouse #buyingahousefromyourparents #mortgagetips
It’s worth checking any capital gains tax or inheritance tax liability - I’m just solely here for mortgages, no tax advice round here 😅

As a tax adviser and someone who did this: 1) there won’t be capital gains tax if it’s their main home

They would end up with capital gains tax for what the house was actually worth. We’d all be doing it otherwise.

Careful. Deprivation or assets. And still CGT at full value

My parents want to give me their house, it’s worth around 300-350k could they go about doing this at all or could I buy it for a small price? X

lisamarie3711 :
You have explained this wrongly, they would buy at full market value and gift equity as the form of deposit otherwise it’s a concessionary purchase and the buyer would need at least a 5% of their own

It’s brilliant idea to do! But how do property developers pay £1 per house in run down areas???

Also possible implications is parents need care paid for as selling house for cheap can be deemed deprivation of assets.

My parents would never sell it for less… they have plans for every single penny of their £600k house 🥺

Captital gains tax would be due in the difference if they then sold the house
