Jessica Reisinger-Raubenolt was pushing her daughter in a stroller when she crossed the road. Cameron Herrin, 18, was driving a Ford Mustang, a gift for his high school graduation, and his friend John Barrineau, 17, was nearby in a Nissan Altima. Witnesses reported the two appeared to be racing. Herrin's Mustang struck the mother and daughter at 102 mph. In 2020, Barrineau pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and received a six-year sentence. Herrin also pleaded guilty without a guaranteed sentence, facing a minimum of 18.5 years. During an emotional hearing, the prosecutor sought a term between 18 and 30 years. The judge sentenced Herrin to 24 years. Afterward, Herrin’s attorney claimed that Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren believed the sentence was too harsh, suggesting 10-12 years would have sufficed.
